Casemate Museum

The Casemate Museum, located in Fort Monroe, is a very interesting place where you and your family can spend time together. Fort Monroe was built in 1812 as a military base to protect America from attacks. History will tell us that Fort Monroe has played an important part in protecting the Hampton Roads and Virginia area.

In 1951, the Casemate Museum was opened to show where Jefferson Davis was kept as a prisoner after the civil war. Today, the museum has expanded and now contains numerous significant artifacts from the 19th century.
